We here at Land Watch pride ourselves in giving you the best product for your specific security needs, and letting people know your property is protected by us. We understand that there are many different types of cameras and the decision may be overwhelming to most, but that’s why we are here to help.
Over the years of Land Watch a very common question in many people’s journey to finding the right security system, is whether to use a hidden or visible camera for your ideal area. Both hidden cameras and visible cameras can capture the footage you need, but only a visible camera will deter. And we think it is better to not lose the Land Cruiser in the first place!
In saying this, both options have their own advantages and disadvantages, so let’s talk about what is the better option.
Hidden Cameras
Pros
- Is discreet/doesn’t stand out to visitors, good for aesthetic purposes in a home.
- Reduces the risk of a camera being vandalized and/or damaged.
- Sometimes a cheaper choice than a visible camera.
Cons
- Hidden cameras are difficult to hide at properties that have vast areas of land, such as rural farms.
- Can be hard to achieve the best angle, as it needs to stay hidden. A lot of hidden cameras can’t turn as easy or as far as a visible option.
- Thieves are more likely to strike, as they are not deterred by any visible cameras.
- Most hidden cameras can only be used indoors or around the house, so you are limited in what you can access and keep an eye on.
- Not as many options to choose from, i.e. may not be suitable for certain properties.
Visible Cameras
Pros
- Helps reduce the possibility of crime on a property, as by seeing a visible camera it deters most thieves. An interview with rural Australian thieves suggests that these security improvements have reduced property crime significantly.
- Can be placed anywhere on a property.
- Opens up the option to choose a more durable solar powered camera for remote areas such as paddocks.
- Less likely to have an obstructed view, can be installed at a higher angle if needed.
- They have unmatched picture quality, with lots of storage.
CONS
- Are easier to dismantle or vandalize as they are out in the open.
- Although visible cameras may deter criminals, they might make friends and family feel uncomfortable when seeing a big camera filming them.
Hidden and visible cameras both have their perks and downsides. But if you are wanting secure security for your property with less risk of crime then a visible camera is the way to go! I always say it’s better to deter AND catch the identity of your thief, rather than just capturing a picture/video them. This could save you thousands of dollars.
